Missionary Work Amidst
The Poverty in Haiti

Can you imagine giving up everything you own in order to do missionary work for God?

Don and Lisa Buxman have made a decision to be the Hands of Christ in Haiti, one of the most poverty-stricken countries in the world.

Very few people would give up a comfortable lifestyle, a nice home, a successful excavating business, and all of their personal possessions in order to serve the poor. But God has called this humble couple to do His work serving as missionaries in Haiti.

The Buxmans will be working together with christian missionaries, John and Beth McHoul, founders of Heartline Ministries. The McHouls have been serving needy Haitians for 20 years.

Below are some of their thriving missionary projects:

  • Women's Program
  • Maranatha Orphanage
  • English Camp
  • Tilapia Fish Project
  • Inner City Outreach
  • Nanny Training
  • Clinics and Seminars
  • Sewing School
  • Literacy Class
  • Church and Sunday School
  • Bible Studies
  • Childrens Church and Nightly Devotions

  • Christian Missions - Introducing Two New Projects

  • The Birthing Center

A portion of the Womens Center is being transformed into a Birthing and Training Center. Beth McHoul and Lisa Buxman, a Certified Midwife, will be coordinating volunteer US midwives who have made short-term commitments to help deliver babies. There is a huge need for a safe place for pregnant women to deliver. If funding for equipment falls into place, delivering babies through the Pre-natal program could happen by late-fall.

  • The Mens Christian Ministry
  • This program is not as defined compared to the Womens Birthing Center. Missionaries, John McHoul and Don Buxman, will step into this new program relying on God's will and direction.

Although some Haitian men are employed in factories or various business, work as teachers, laborers, gardeners, or drivers, many are idle, with nothing to do. The vision is to start a ministry with a group of men, mentor them, teach them biblical principles of honesty and integrity, guide them through job training and other vocational skills that will eventually lead to job opportunities and more productive lives.

The Great Challenge Amidst a Walk of Faith:

    The Buxmans-Missionary Bound

The Buxman's have spent untold thousands in personal funds just to prepare for their Haiti journey. Although local pledges have been graciously received...

They Face These Extraordinary One-time Missionary Expenses:

  • $15,000 for house rental. In Haiti, annual rent is required in advance
  • .

  • $15,000 to buy a used truck in Haiti. The crater-laden roads in Haiti are very tough on vehicles.
  • $8,000 for a stand-by generator. Electrical power is not reliable. It's not unusual to lose power for days at a time.
  • Here's an excerpt from the Heartline Blog:

The Daily Electricity Challenges - "We are now on our third day with no electricity at the children's homes, the Women's Center and the office. We are not certain why there is no electricity. Our house is less than a mile away and we have electricity. Troy and Tara even live closer and they have electricity. Speaking of electricity we received an electric bill for the girl's house in the amount of $1675.00 US. SAY WHAT! It could take us almost two years to generate that much electricity as we usually are without city power. I will be going to the electric company to discuss the bill but as I learned almost 20 years ago and as is still the case, customer service is not a strong point here. I can almost predict what will happen. I will go to the electric company with other bills from previous months that will show that our previous bills were a fraction of the current bill. But that will have no impact. I will be told that we simply used more electricity, like 20 times more than usual. I will of course disagree and the person that I am talking to will by this time lose interest in me. If I say that I won't pay because there must be an error, then the person may or may not respond, but it doesn't matter as he/she knows and I know that the electric company will disconnect us if we don't pay."

Please pray with us as we look to God for His will and direction in making a difference in the lives of Haitian Men and in this Mens Ministry.

How YOU Can Help Support Their Missionary Work

The Buxmans and Heartline Ministries are supported by friends, family and generous people like you who believe in their missionary work. Without continued prayers and financial support, they would be unable to serve the needy in Haiti.

Missionary work in Haiti truly is a partnership between the missionaries and the individuals who provide prayer and financial support. Only together can we make a difference. Know that you will touch the lives of many Haitian people through your support.

Here are three encouraging bible verses to contemplate:

  • Proverbs 19:17 reads, "If you help the poor, you are lending to the Lord - and He will repay you."
  • Proverbs 22:9 reads, "Blessed are those who are generous, because they feed the poor."
  • Luke 6:38 reads, "If you give, you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full measure, pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, and running over. Whatever measure you use in giving - large or small - it will be used to measure what is given back to you."
  • The Buxmans and the entire Heartline Ministries team are honored to partner with you to impact the people of Haiti through the life-changing Gospel of Christ. For 20 years John and Beth McHoul have been sharing the gospel and discipling fellow Christians in Haiti. They are continually amazed by God's blessings and are grateful for the new opportunities He presents to their ministry. Your prayer and financial support has made this possible. It is the Lord's acting in the hearts of partners like you that has been the greatest testament of God's faithfulness to Heartline Ministries. Thank you and may God bless you.
