Funeral Bible Readings in Tribute to
an 89 Year-Old Jet Skier

This inspiring story of an 89-year old jet skier, and the accompanying funeral bible readings, will warm your heart.

Marguerite Lillian Genereau. She's been known as “Lil,” “Marg,” “Marguerite,” “mom,” “gramma,” and more recently as “jet-ski” as I'll explain in a moment.

This charming woman holds a top spot among people I most admire and she's provided great inspiration to me and many others who've had the privilege of knowing her.

How many people do you know who:

  • Obtained a drivers license at the age of 75
  • Skimmed across a lake on a jet-ski at 50 miles per hour at age 89
  • Lived independently in her home as a widow for over 21 years
  • Cared for a spouse stricken with Lou Gehrigs Disease
  • Walked an average of 4 miles per day
  • Enjoyed lengthy phone conversations with friends, family members, and absolute strangers
  • Survived three separate strokes
  • You'd be hard-pressed to find anyone who could match her zest for life or her ability to generate smiles and uncontrollable laughter.

I jump at the opportunity to share some of her funny stories with friends and relatives. People often asked me, “What's Marguerite done lately? What new stories do you have to share with us?”

A book could be written about her outrageous experiences-experiences that even brought tears of laughter to her eyes.

The first three chapters could begin like this...

    How About The Time...

She and her best friend, Alice, were walking in the dead of winter down a sidewalk covered with fresh snow. Friendly construction workers were waving to them so they returned the greetings. After a few moments of difficult walking they realized they were bogged down in fresh concrete and the workers were simply trying to get the ladies off of the sidewalk.

    Or, How About The Time...

She attended a craft fair eagerly sampling the food on display at each booth. She especially enjoyed one particularly sample only to find out from the owner that she was eating birdseed. It was good enough for a second helping.

    Or, How About The Time...

She was visiting family and while cleaning her teeth one morning began to experience a burning sensation in her mouth. She mistakenly grabbed the wrong tube from the bathroom counter and ended up brushing her teeth with Ben-Gay.

If ever someone needed a role model to deal with life's uncertainties, trials and tribulations, Marguerite would be your unquestionable choice.

This wonderful woman touched the lives of countless people. Within days after this July, 2008 photo was taken she was diagnosed with Stage 3 pancreatic cancer. After a courageous battle, she passed away on January 15, 2009. She had family and friends laughing until she was unable to speak.

Marguerite continued to radiate unaltering faith, trust, love, and peace-priceless attributes of her Christian beliefs and gifts that only God can provide. Her life was always void of selfish motives and instead was devoted to endlessly praying for others.

She's now experiencing a new beginning beyond this physical world and at some point, we will all join her in eternity.

This is a tribute to Marguerite Lillian Genereau, one very special woman indeed.

The following funeral bible readings brought hope, encouragement, and inspiration to our family. Hopefully these funeral verses will help ease the grief, sorrow, and pain associated with the loss of a loved one or friend.

    Funeral Bible Readings from Thessalonians

  • 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14 reads, "And now, brothers and sisters, I want you to know what will happen to the Christians who have died so you will not be full of sorrow like people who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and was raised to life again, we also believe that when Jesus comes, God will bring back with Jesus all the Christians who have died."
  • Funeral Bible Readings from Revelation

  • Revelation 14:13 reads, "And I heard of voice from heaven saying, "Write this down: Blessed are those who die in the Lord from now on. Yes, says the Spirit, they are blessed indeed, for they will rest from all their toils and trials; for their good deeds follow them!"
  • Revelation 21:4 reads, "He will remove all of their sorrows, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. For the old world and its evils are gone forever."
  • Funeral Bible Readings from 2 Corinthians

  • 2 Corinthians 4:14-5:1-10 reads, "We know that the same God who raised our Lord Jesus will also raise us with Jesus and present us to Himself along with you. All of these things are for your benefit. And as God's grace brings more and more people to Christ, there will be great thanksgiving, and God will receive more and more glory. That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. For our present troubles are quite small and won't last very long. Yet they produce for us an immeasurably great glory that will last forever! So we don't look at the troubles we can see right now; rather, we look forward to what we have not yet seen. For the troubles we see will soon be over, but the joys to come will last forever. For we know that when this earthly tent we live in is taken down - when we die and leave these bodies - we will have a home in heaven, an eternal body made for us by God Himself and not by human hands. We grow weary in our present bodies, and we long for the day when we will put on our heavenly bodies like new clothing. For we will not be spirits without bodies, but we will put on new heavenly bodies. Our dying bodies make us groan and sigh, but it's not that we want to die and have no bodies at all. We want to slip into our new bodies so that these dying bodies will be swallowed up by everlasting life. God Himself has prepared us for this, and as a guarantee He has given us His Holy Spirit. So we are always confident, even though we know that as long as we live in these bodies we are not at home with the Lord. That is why we live by believing and not by seeing. Yes, we are fully confident, and we would rather be away from these bodies, for then we will be at home with the Lord. So our aim is to please Him always, whether we are here in this body or away from this body. For we must all stand before Christ to be judged. We will each receive whatever we deserve for the good or evil we have done in our bodies."
  • Funeral Bible Readings from Daniel

  • Daniel 12:13 reads, "As for you, go your way until the end. You will rest, and then at the end of the days, you will rise again to receive the inheritance set aside for you."
  • Funeral Bible Readings from John

  • John 14:1-3 reads, "Don't be troubled. You trust God, now trust in me. There are many rooms in my Father's home, and I am going to prepare a place for you. If this were not so, I would tell you plainly. When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am."
  • Funeral Bible Readings from Ecclesiastes

  • Ecclesiastes 7:1 reads, "A good reputation is more valuable than the most expensive perfume. In the same way, the day you die is better than the day you are born."
  • Funeral Bible Readings from Isaiah

  • Isaiah 57:1-2 reads, "The righteous pass away; the godly often die before their time. And no one seems to care or wonder why. No one seems to understand that God is protecting them from the evil to come. For the godly who die will rest in peace."
  • Isaiah 41:10 reads, "Don't be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. I will help you. I will uphold you with my victorious right hand." "
  • Funeral Bible Readings from Psalms

  • Psalm 145:17-19 reads, "The Lord is righteous in everything He does; He is filled with kindness. The Lord is close to all who call on Him, yes, to all who call on Him sincerely. He fulfills the desires of those who fear Him; He hears their cries for help and rescues them."
  • Psalm 46:1 reads, "God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble."
  • Psalm 23:1-6 reads, "The Lord is my shepherd; I have everything I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; He leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to His name. Even when I walk through the dark valley of death, I will not be afraid, for You are close beside me. Your rod and Your staff protect and comfort me. You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You welcome me as a guest, annointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings. Surely Your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever."
