Cures for Depression... A Daily Dose of Something Besides Medication
Are there cures for depression? The answers are yes, no, and maybe.
At one time or another, everyone gets depressed to some degree. But like a warning light on a car instrument panel, depression is a red flag waving to get your attention. It states that something is not right. Feeling depressed is a symptom, and an
individual in this state should take some sort of action to determine the cause of the problem.
So what is the definition of depression? One online medical encyclopedia gives the definition of depression as, "a state of being depressed marked especially by sadness, inactivity, difficulty with thinking and concentration, a significant increase or decrease in appetite and time spent sleeping, feelings of dejection and hopelessness, and sometimes suicidal thoughts or an attempt to commit suicide."

Here are three causes of depression affecting men of the Bible:
Moses - Unending physical and mental exhaustion can be one of the causes of depression. Trying to assume too much responsibility can eventually lead to depression. Delegation can act as one of the key cures for depression.
Elijah - Internalizing fears and anxieties can have an accumulating, negative effect on the human body. Asking the question, "What is causing my worries or fears" and asking God to carry your burdens is the best approach. Know that the Great
One doesn't expect you to shoulder things alone.
Jonah - When life has no meaning or purpose and random events cause crisis or hopelessness, depression can set in. Ask God to give you His plan for your life. Pray to Him so that He
will share the Big Picture and the reason for your existence.
Can these four bible verses act as natural remedies for depression?
Jeremiah 29:11 reads, "For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope."
Psalm 34:18-19 reads, "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; He rescues those who are crushed in spirit. The righteous face many troubles, but the Lord rescues them from each and every one."
Revelation 21:4 reads, "He will remove all of their sorrows, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. For the old world and its evils are gone forever."
Isaish 41:10 reads, "Don't be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. I will help you. I will uphold you with my victorious right
hand."
These encouraging bible verses provide much needed comfort. In moments of despair, remember that God has a plan for all of us and we can be assured that it is filled with His blessings. Spiritual growth is a very important part of His plan for each us. This alone gives hope for our future. Cures for depression and overcoming depression can be viewed from an entirely different and spiritual perspective.
