One of Haiti's Christian Missions Discovers a Creative Way To Help Feed the Poor

Christian Missions Tilapia Fish Project
Heartline Christian Ministries Tilapia project is now operational. These christian missionaries have three tanks and a pool that hold over 200 tilapia. The fish will provide nutritious food for the children and women. Eventually this program will allow them to teach others how to raise their own Tilapia and help them get started.
Here are some interesting facts about Tilapia:
It is native to the countries of Israel and Northern Africa, and is also known as St. Peter's Fish
It was the first fish farmed humans. Egyptians raised tilapia in lakes and ponds. Drawings of tilapia farming have been discovered in Egyptian tombs dating back to 2,500 B.C.
The Aquafarming occurs in both indoor and outdoor ponds so the fish don't escape and compete with other fish species. Tilapia rank among the top three fish in aquaculture, along with carp and salmon.
Tilapia feed on algae and plankton which helps keep the water clean. They are a warm water fish with the ideal water temerature between 76-84 degrees F.
The fish produce rapidly and are easily grown. A pair of tilapia can produce up to 100,000 fish in six months
These fish are 50 times less expensive to produce than beef
Tilapia are disease resistent and don't require any antibiotics.
This fish is high in protein, low in sodium and low in fat. Tilapia contain Omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, B-complex vitamins and minerals, including calcium, iron, potassium and
phosphorous.
Mercury levels are extremely low because of its short life span and the fact that the fish doesn't eat other fish containing mercury.
One four-ounce fillet contains 90mg of omega-3 fatty acids and 21 grams of protein.
Tilapia is a lean, white, flaky fish.

The Bible has some importance messages about generous giving. Here are three bible passages:
Mark 9:41 reads, "If anyone gives you even a cup of water because you belong to the Messiah, I assure you, that person will be rewarded."
1 Timothy 6:17-19 reads, "Tell those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which will soon be gone. But their trust should be in the living God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment. Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and should give generously to those in need, always being ready to share with others whatever God has given them. By doing this they will be storing up their treasure as a good foundation for the future so that they may take hold of real life."
Hebrews 13:16 reads, "Don't forget to do good and to share what you have with those in need, for such sacrifices are very pleasing to God."
