The True Source for Christian Financial Advice

The Money Myth. Passages from the Bible state that God is the ultimate source of our personal finances. He is the One who provides for all our needs. Instead of relying on an employer for financial security, look to God. Rather than looking at a bank account for financial support, look to our Father. There is no need to look to anyone or anything other than to Jesus.

For example, when you turn on the shower, the ultimate source of the water is a well or other water reservoir, not the shower head. The shower head simply serves as the conduit for the water. Similarly, the income that God provides to each of us may come from a job or business, but the origin is always God. We don't need to be concerned about the instruments Jesus uses to supply our financial needs. If He turns off one financial spigot, He will easily turn on another one. He someone loses one job or business, God will see that another opportunity arises.

Financial worry indicates no trust in Him. Pray to Jesus to have Him reveal areas of life where that trust is not present. Always talk to Jesus through an intimate conversation with Him. He will help and guide you through times of doubt, concern, stress or grief.

Deuteronomy 8:18 reads, "Always remember that it is the Lord your God who gives you power to become rich, and He does it to fulfill the covenant He made with your ancestors."

We are living in a time of unprecedented change that is affecting all Americans. Many hard-working people and retirees, alike, are seeing jobs and life savings quickly disappear. Fear and disillusionment are causing many to ask the question, "Will I ever be financially secure?" The answer depends on who or what you are trusting as your source of security.
Our Lord and Wonderful Counselor gives us two illustrations of christian financial advice through powerful bible verses taken from:

  • Luke 16:13 - It reads, "No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money." Jesus knew that money would interfere and compete with a personal relationship with Him.
  • Proverbs 18:10-11 also illustrates an important message about money, and it reads, "The name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to Him and are safe. The rich think of their wealth as an impregnable defense; they imagine it is a high wall of safety." Choosing Jesus and christian living leads us to solid ground and safety. Selecting material wealth over Christ is an illusion that will eventually bring only disappointment.

Here is the true deception. As long as the money tree continues to be plentiful, confidence, arrogance, and self-reliance typically remain intact. Many individuals tend to base their wellbeing on a career, bank accounts and "stuff", measuring self-worth by net worth. When prosperity dwindles and the financial structure crumbles, so will the individuals who relied on these illusions.

A person can trust in money or in God, who will always be our true source of security. Our Father promises to supply all of our needs.

The apostle, Paul, wrote this message in Philippians 4:19 and it reads, "And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from His glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus."

Take the time to do this quick exercise that identifies, and brings into focus, the true source of our security.

Pull out a coin or paper bill and observe the phrase etched into our money supply. It reads, "In God We Trust". These words provide us with a constant reminder of Who we should turn to for authentic security and christian financial advice.
